The last day of summer, it seemed.
The sun was there, but so was the morning=fog, is that what you call it, or is the word mist a word that does exist in both english and dutch? Maybe so.
And what a summer it has been! May be the best out of my whole life, so far.
It has been absolutely wonderful to have my family around me, for almost 2 weeks.
Alec, Isabella, Nishat, Pieter B. and I , we have done wonderful things together and the grown-ups among us have been children with the children.
We have seen all these things Pieter B.has visited as a child, like "de Efteling"= sort of a dutch Disney world in smaller proportions- the grandchildren had a canal-tour through Amsterdam with their parents, we did visit Enkhuizen, the place where Pieter B. was born and went to school, the 4 of them attended a Bahai' summer school, we did celebrate my birthday(60th) with my siblings and some friends and it has been wonderful to "reconnect" with these people.
For a moment there was a little hope that Nishat would find a position in the Netherlands, but in the back of my mind I somehow knew this was not going to work.
I was very surprised to hear , once they had returned in the U.S, that they wanted to make a real effort to come to Europe. My son called it scenario A. So far this had been scenario B.
But.... that didn't last long. The scenarios changed very quickly, so...we're back on track again: Europe is scenario B, and Princeton will be scenario A.
Of course there is a feeling of disappointment. I experienced this summer for the first time what it could be like, to be a grandmother in my own surroundings, my own environment and it felt a lot different from being "oma" far away from my home.
Alas, it was a nice dream, and dreams come to an end...
So, now its autumn; leafs are falling from the trees, the sun comes up and goes down earlier, temperature is already dropping and yesterday it was the first day I turned on the heater.
Right now its bedtime, here in Europe, and I'm typing this post on my blog in bed!
Why not. P.B. made everything o.k to let me work on this thing wireless, and I'm enjoying it very much.
All right, I must go under the blankets and try to shut my eyes...
Night everyone.
Dagdag,
the horserider
