moved by movies

Somehow my daughter in law seems to inspire me with her articles on her blog :mysticlogic@blogspot .com
She made me think about the movies I watch and have been watching over the years and although I do think I'm not a real movie-watcher , people in my surroundings (Is that English?) seem to think differently.

I must admit that I do not go that much to a real movie-theater, but as soon as I enter the plane to go to my son, daugther i.l. and grandchildren- the most adorable ones of course you can imagine- I know that I'm going to see at least 2 or 3 movies, if not more, on DVD. Who do you think is responsible for that?
Exactly, my d.i.l. Nishat.
Well, of course I'm responsible for watching them but she is the one who sees to it that we have always something to watch on dvd.
And since the U.S has Hollywood, a major industry in my eyes, most movies are first released in the U.S before entering other parts of the world, for example Europe- to be more specific the Netherlands, my country of birth.
That's why, when a movie is shown in Holland on t.v., I quite regularly hear myself say:"oh I know that one, "which makes my friends think sometimes that all I do during my stay in the US is watching movies...

One of the biggest surprises for me was that I really, really liked watching "Lord of the rings". I never managed to read the book. One reason for that is not liking too much fantasy-stories and fairy-tales- that, in spite of my surname...!
I was "moved" by Iris, the biographical story of Iris Murdoch, played by Judy Dench- if my memory is right.
In the theater I loved and laughed my head of watching "calender girls"; another "star-rated" movie: "from Mao to Mozart".

Sometimes a movie makes a change in the world and/or in your "inner"world.
Al Gore certainly made an impact with his documentary "an inconvenient truth" and let's hope with positive results!
In my personal life as a young girl I will never forget the documentaries we had to watch when I was in high-school. It was about one of the concentration-camps, during WW II, :Sachsenhausen.
That made a huge impact on me and gave a real meaning to the words" never again".
Shame on those people who want to deny the holocaust.

So as you can see from this "blogletter" movies can change your opinion and even your life, or at least the way you look at certain parts of life.

In April I plan to go to see my family and look forward to be moved, not only by my grandchildren Isabella and Alec, but definitely by new movies again.

Dagdag,
the horserider.
